Headshot Photography

Headshot Questionnaire
This questionnaire was aimed toward getting an understanding for what actors would look for within headshots.
Interview Questions
These are the questions I asked in the interviews I conducted with various Photographers. These questions were aimed to get an understanding of what to look for, how to get prepaired, and tips they had figured out over the years of doing this type of work.
-
Introduce yourself and how you got into photography.
-
What would you look for in portrait/headshot photography?
-
What lighting set-ups do you use for headshot photography?
-
What camera settings do you recommend for headshot photography? - Do you use a tripod, or shoot handheld?
-
How do you pose your subjects? Is there one pose which you favour over another in order to get genuine feelings?
-
How do you go about directing a person in a way which shows their true self, while also showing them in a good or beautiful way?
-
If you and your subject are not having the best time during a shoot, what would you do to turn things around and ensure you get some good shots - without making them look uncomfortable or stressed?
-
What do you feel is the main thing to look out for - focus, brightness, smoothness, poses, etc?
-
How far should you take your edits? What can you do to make things look real without affecting how things look?
-
What would you look out for in terms of editing? Are things too bright/dark, are the colours off, etc? How would you go about fixing these issues?
-
What are some problems (during shoots and editings) have you been faced with and how did you overcome them?
-
What are some tips and tricks you have been taught or have developed for yourself?
-
What is a general letdown that could affect a shoot? What is one thing (or several) that could slowdown or harm your workflow?
-
Could you give me some feedback on some of my headshots and portraits?
